November
21 - January 3, 2010
The Market Street Art Center, opened its third annual Holiday Show, “Deck the Halls,” on Saturday November 21 as part of the 2009 Holiday Art Trail (November 21st and 22nd). “Our holiday show is always one of our more popular shows, “says Executive Director Joe Buczkowski. “It is not a themed show, which means there is a greater variety for people to enjoy.” The other major departure is that the Holiday Show is what is known as an “off the wall” show. Normal custom for art galleries is that a purchased piece of art work from a show remains on the wall until the end of the show so that other patrons may enjoy the work. An off the wall show allows the buyer to take the work home immediately. “People are looking for gifts this time of year,” Buczkowski explains, and art always makes a great gift.” Also at the Market Street Art Center on the weekend of November 21st and 22nd for the Holiday Art Trail, was the Artisan’s Alley, eleven visiting artisans working in such crafts as carving, hand crafted jewelry and floral arrangements. The success of previous years led to the expansion of the Art Trail. “One of the Market Street Art Center’s missions,” continues Buczkowski, “is to seek out artists that the public is unaware of but should be; to shine a spotlight on them. The Artisan’s Alley, and the Art Trail itself, are fulfillments of that mission. Free maps of the Holiday Art Trail, depicting all of the participating venues, were available at the Market Street Art Center. Each map has a coupon good for three dollars off the Market Street Art Center’s 2010 Artist’s Calendar. Admission to all events was FREE to the public.
