"Painting Lockport"
by Manning McCandlish |
Sixty years! A long time! That’s the age of the Niagara Arts Guild. And, this year they
are celebrating their anniversary with a month-long exhibit of members' artwork from some of the early members, now deceased, up to today’s members.
The Niagara Arts Guild is a casual, fun organization, founded in 1948 with Miss Lorana Rogers as the first President. The Guild currently has about 50 members from western New York. Nine meetings per year include presentations by guest artists in a variety of media including painting (watercolor, oil, acrylic), pastels, glass, photography, sculpture, wood carving, murals, etc.
The Guild sponsors art shows in the spring and autumn. These shows include both exhibit and sale, are open the public, and provide an opportunity for members to show their work, an incentive to continue to explore through art, and encourage young people to enter the field of art. Shows are held at Frames by Ames, the Niagara County Historical Museum, both in Lockport, and at the van Horn Mansion in Newfane.
The Guild meets third Fridays, September through June, with a Christmas party in December. Guests are welcome. For more information, please call Linda Anderson, 716-778-7233 or the Market Street Art Center, 716-478-0239.
Opening Reception was June 27 -
