Market
Street Art Center launches its 2009 season with “Observations,” a
photography exhibit featuring the works twenty-four photographers. Unlike
many shows there is no central theme to this exhibit. Although
juried by the MSAC Show Committee, applicants were not restricted
on content, composition or technique.
“With
the digital revolution, there’s been an explosion in photography
and a lot of previously undiscovered talent is coming to the fore,” says
Joe Buczkowski, Executive Director of the art center, “we
wanted to do an exhibit that showcased the variety of techniques,
old and new, that are available to photographers.”
One
such new technique is digital manipulation of photos via a computer
editing program like Photoshop. Such images were, at first, disdained
by many traditional photographers as amateurish but opinions have
softened in recent years and manipulated photography has been more
and more accepted into the art scene.
The
Market Street Art Center announced the winners of the “Observations” photography
show at a reception held Saturday, February 7th. The
show was judged by Dennis Stierer and awards for first, second
and third place were handed out.
- First
place was “Intergalactic Scenic Overlook,” by Patricia
Stafford.
- Second
place was “Pink Style,” Angela Connery.
- John
Shera took Third place with “Nocturne,
Cucuron France.”
Honorable
mention was awarded to Robert Rimmer for “Grand
Prismatic.”
Joseph
Buczkowski, Executive Director of the art center, presented
the Director’s Choice award to Jay Costello for “Tools
and Wine Bottles.”
