“Spirit of ’59” showcased the creative talents of the Lockport High School and DeSales Catholic High School classes of 1959.
The idea was the brainchild of Sally Hilger Bisher, Associate Director of the MSAC, and her cousin, Bonnie Vossler Gaisor, both of whom graduated in 1959. “Bonnie is a talented artist,” says Bisher, "and with our fiftieth reunion approaching, that got us wondering what creative talents the other members of our class have. We started talking with the reunion committee about doing a show and the idea just grew from there.”
“The show is a break from traditional art shows,” adds Joseph Buczkowski, “which usually have a unifying theme or medium. The only criteria we had was some sort of creative expression. We have paintings and photography in the show but we also have books that have been authored by Class of ’59 members, wood working, even a wedding dress from a seamstress. Everybody has an outlet for creative expression, as this show demonstrates. It’s just a matter of finding it.”
Opening Reception was held on August 1. An additional Reception by Class of '59 was held August 15
