Release! 3/31/2007:
Market Street Artist Does it "Saratoga Style"
This summer,
the Saratoga County Arts Council in Saratoga Springs,
New York is sponsoring Horses, Saratoga Style 2007.
This public art project will feature 34 life-sized
fiberglass horses that have been embellished by
artists from New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts.
One of these horses is being created right here
in Lockport by Stephanie M. Dunatov. The
artist is affording the public the rare opportunity
to watch an art horse "in progress" as
she works from her Market Street studio.

The
horse, entitled "Ghosts of Saratoga" will chronicle
the history of horse-racing in Saratoga Springs, which officially
dates back to 1863. The topic is an ideal showcase
for Dunatov's work; the artist is best known for incorporating
legendary or historical settings into her equine compositions.
Dunatov will use paint and collage techniques to decorate the
sculpture with artifacts and images that depict a few of the
people, events and famous horses that have shaped Saratoga
racing throughout the years.
Artists
participating in Horses, Saratoga Style, 2007 have been allotted
little more than two months to complete their work, before
the official unveiling at the end of May. The sculptures
will then be on public display throughout Saratoga Springs
for the duration of the summer season. Dunatov‘s horse
has been sponsored by John and Theresa Behrendt of Saratoga
Springs. The precise location where "Ghosts of Saratoga" will
be exhibited this summer has not yet been announced.
