Third Thursday Group Meetings
Based on the vagaries of the weather around here, we've decided to cancel the January 19 Third Thursday meeting.
The meetings will resume on February 16. Meetings will start at 5:30. Please note: this is a new start time.
Our planned February topic is "sources and resources" (thank you Patty Perry).
Bring your ideas and experiences for how you get your ideas and inspiration, where you get your art supplies, etc.
We'll compile and distribute a list of such contributors to the practice of art.
Please check back for upcoming meetings in 2012.
Hope you will join us! Public is welcome. No admission charge.

Third
Thursday Group
The
Third Thursday Group is a casual gathering
of regional artists. As the name implies we
meet on the third Thursday of every month at
5:30 pm. There are no formalities,
no old business, new business, no president,
or secretary. Dialogue is the order of the
day. Some of the subjects over the past 2 years
have included spirited discussions on, “Reproductions,
is this commercialism?” “Realism
Vs. Painterly”, why not take a photo? “Photography”,
is it really art? Spontaneous presentations
have been made, sharing experiences using new
materials, tools and techniques.
The
group was the brain child of MSAC staff to
give artists the opportunity to socialize with
other artists who share the same passions. They
have evolved into a driving force at the center
as new ideas for unique shows are inspired
by their sometimes spirited discussions.
Come
as you are, it’s free and all artists
are welcome. Share a glass of wine
and have some cheese and crackers. But foremost
bring your thoughts and don’t be afraid
to share them with us. See you on third Thursday. |

Past Third Thursday Group Meetings include:
Thank you to Ken McPherson for sharing his stories about the Charles Howard Santa Claus School, originally located in Albion, New York and the special holiday exhibition of photographs!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to Richard Baird for sharing his work and offering tips at our October meeting. Richard Baird is an award winning photographer. Photography is important not only to photographers, but also to painters using a photo as a basis for their work.

The October meeting took place at Frames by Ames at
101 Market Street in the Bewley Building (just up the hill from the Art Center). Thanks to Bill Sipple, owner of Frames by Ames, for answering out questions about framing and matting!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to Carol Miller for giving us an overview of making photo booklets at our September meeting. These booklets can be used for art portfolios, travelogues, family histories, product service announcements and many other creative uses.
Carol has created nine booklets and has accumulated significant experiences with two photobook services (blurb.com and walmart.com)

A big THANK YOU to Don Little for sharing his time and expertise at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (AKAG) for our Third "Thursday" meeting on Saturday, April 30, 2011.
